Guidelines for Submissions

We are seeking submissions from acoustic guitarists and "guitaristic" ensembles of all skill levels. Currently, we have a single page devoted to fingerstyle guitar only, but flatpickers (and their friends) are welcome too! We can either host your sound files, or set up links on our page back to your files.

Acceptable Material

All material should be either original, traditional or otherwise public domain. In other words, stuff you can be reasonably said to have performance rights to. Record your sound files with the best fidelity you can get -- people will be listening to this stuff -- this page is an outgrowth of my own Execrable Guitar Solos page, which is beginning to get a surprising (and even slightly alarming) amount of traffic.

Music should be solo or ensemble acoustic guitar, or at least guitar-centered. (We may add other non-guitar categories later.) All styles, from Celtic to Classical to Neo-Galactic Muzak are fine. We will ultimately set up separate pages for different styles of music.

Musicians need not be concerned about skill level. All players from beginning to advanced are encouraged to submit material. Think of this as an on-line recital of sorts ...

Be aware that I have a morbid fear of lawyers -- if I am asked to remove a song for reasons of copyright violation, I will do so, although not without notifying the original submitter.

Submitting a Recording

You can submit me either a valid link to a sound file on a server, or the actual file itself. I will be happy to host files, although I may have to rotate them out if disk space gets short. You may also send me a tape in the mail, and I will convert it to a sound file and post it.

Submitting a Link

To submit a link to a recording, just send me an email(mikey@swampgas.com) with a valid URL for the sound file. You should also send me any comments about the recording, related URLS, etc to be posted along with the recording. Your email address will automatically be included in this information.

Note that I will link to any commonly used audio file format, but would really prefer that submitters use Real Audio formatted files. Both the Real Audio Player and Encoder (the software that converts audio files to Real Audio format) are free. Real Audio files are very compact, and can be played in real-time over standard 28.8k modem links or better. Follow this link to get the RealAudio Player, and this link to get the RealAudio Encoder. If you can get me the sound file, I will also gladly convert it for you.

Submitting a File

The instructions for submitting a file are the same as for submitting a link; just send me an email(mikey@swampgas.com) -- but you should attach the sound file to the message if it's under 500K. If the sound file is over 500K, let me know in the message, and I will send you instructions for downloading the file directly to me. Note that if the file is not already in RealAudio format, I will convert it prior to posting it.

Sending Me a Tape

Tapes should be sent to:

Michael Owings
18 Glen Loop
Covington, LA 70435

Include your comments in a letter sent with the tape, or better yet, send me an email(mikey@swampgas.com) when you send the tape so I'll know to expect it. Please don't send me DAT tapes, as I don't have the equipment. Do send the best fidelity standard analog tape you can manage. I will digitize and post selections from the tape as soon as I receive it.

Miscellaneous Stuff

All recordings remain your property, and will be removed upon your request. Of course, this site is a free service to the acoustic music community.
