Hey Dudes,
I have heard from many of you already. I am accumulating all requests. I mentioned in a previous post that I would place our first order after our next meeting, but after further consideration have decided to place an order that will be available for distribution at our next meeting, so place your orders now, but show alittle restraint. The way we will be receiving the yeast is two day delivery from WhiteLabs to my house. I will be handling and storing this product to insure that once you get it, you will be able to use it until its expiration date and even later, if you keep it very cold. I have no confidence in any of the retailers I have been dealing with to get this product, since Brew Ha Ha closed, and White labs agreed with me enough to make their generous offer. When properly stored their yeast will be highly viable until the printed exiration date. My complete respect for their processes and the way Elvis was able to conduct his business with them was what built this whole arrangement. The next order after this one will be in October, so order what you need, but please only order what you plan on using. And remember that when done properly, you can use the same yeast over several generations of brews. I can give some suggestions about successfully doing this at the next meeting.
Also, to help support the process, I urge anyone that receives yeast to send a short and sweet thank you to Whitelabs, with some details of your results, so they know how much this means to us and that they are not throwing their money away. I did not play the " woe is us" Katrina spiel at all. This is all about what we all hope is a temporary break in the local supply chain.
MKOB has been making some great beers in the last few years and I am happy to help keep that momentum alive. I will post the current yeast selection later tonight or tomorrow at the latest.
It has been mentioned by some that they would not mind paying for their yeast. Well finally the lawyers are showing a positive side. Its all free because of liability. Isn't that a sweet irony.
Any questions or suggestions, please contact me. I definitely would love to hear anyones suggestions that could make this even better for us.
And one more thing, White Labs has some concerns that other groups around the country might catch wind of this and feel like they have good reasons for wanting free yeast. This would not be good for us, so lets not chat this up too much outside of our group.
Cheers
Tom Conklin
