[MKOB] Cerveza selection

Dan,

Have you found a Glazer salesman intelligent enough to provide with the
LIndermanns apple lambic called POMME ? I finally got Hugh's on the north
shore to get the product from Glazer. It's amazing that it was Glazer that
showcased the product at the WYES beer tasting over 3 months ago and they
are not getting it to any outlets including Dorignacs or Martins.

Do you know how to hide a million dollars from a Glazer Distributor ? Tape
it to a bottle of Belgian ale or good Dopple Bock.

Funny . . . I just added the large bottle of Lindeman's Framboise to my
shelves at Dorignac's. I am charging $9.99 per large bottle and (I think)
5.99 for the samll bottle.

My (and Sav-A-Center's) costs are $8.41 and $5.33 respectively -- meaning
that Sav-A-Center has a 1% and 2% markup on these beers -- which is
ridiculous since most stores have between a 10 to 30% markup -- and should
answer your question about whether it has somebody competent managing its
beer selection.

Another funny thing, Flying Dog and Lindeman's are both distributed by
Glazer's. Glazer's beer salespersons are actually wine salespersons (who
know nothing about beer) who have now also been assigned to sell beer to
save costs. These salespersons are paid by commission (approximately 4%) --
so they don't give a shit about how much Sav-A-Center -- or Dorignac's for
that matter -- charges for beer as long as the business keeps ordering.
Hell -- the salesperson gets $4.00 (4% of $100) for every case of Lindeman's
ordered by Sav-A-Center. In fact, the cheaper Sav-A-Center selles the beer
the better, since cheaper beer drives sales which increases orders which
increases commissions. Cha ching.

A similar situation happened at Dorignac's. Dorignac's never properly
checked up on its beer salespeople and prices. Now, I am in the process of
making alot of price changes . . . don't worry we are still pretty cheap . .
. we just are not giving it away anymore . . . literally.

Alright . . . that is the beer lesson for the day.

The moral . . . if you like Lindeman's Framboise, take a trip to
Sav-A-Center in Slidell. I hear Slidell is lovely this time of year.

  Next week's lesson. . . shelf layouts.

Spurred by the conversation last night of beer selection in the local
market ... I lingered at the cooler in Sav-A-Center in Slidell. I thought
I'd mention this because over the past month or so, I've noticed this store
has a much better, fresher and wider selection of beers. I don't know if
they got a new manager of that area or not. But I can tell you that they
have a nice selection of good beer, and all the standards in their walk-in
cooler.

Today my purchase was a Lindeman's Framboise, the large bottle for $8.50.
The smaller bottle went for $5.50.

I also noticed that they had about 5 or 6 products of the Flying Dog
brewery, about 8-10 German beers, a couple Japanese beers and all of the
usual suspects in a beer case. I won't go overboard and say this was the
best selection I've seen, but I will say that this is a step above any other
grocery store or liqu or market in Slidell. It's also cheaper then Hughes
and World Market. :P
