[MKOB] Crocks

Anybody ever use a crock as a primary?? 

 

My wife and I were at her mom's in Pennsylvania and I brought back four that
they used in the past to make sauerkraut.

 

 A six, ten, 15 and 20 gallon.  The 20 gallon is in good shape, no cracks.  

 

 The 15 has a drain port at the bottom (a hole with a cork in it).

 

  Would there be sanitation issues if the crock has a good finish on the
inside?
