Listen up Russ!

What the guys have replied to you is the reaction that I was counting on. You did an admirable job on this competition. No one else stepped up to volunteer their time and effort to conduct it --- but you did. This club needs people to take charge and do things whether they have had prior experience or not. It's the learning part of why we meet and not a stage where we are judged.

Many years ago, I put on several competitions for the New Orleans club. It was my first time to attempt such a thing. I ran into all of the same logistics that you did. It was far more difficult than I had imagined to execute what seamed to be such a straight forward task. Until you have tried it, you cannot appreciate what I am saying (Just ask Larry). It takes more than one person to perform a competition. You need the help of at least two more bodies to pull it off. Your first time out went much smoother that mine did and I admire you organizational skills. I could have jumped out there and grabbed the project from the git-go and applied past experience to it. That perhaps would have massaged my ego but would not have given this club or anyone in it the benefit of learning.

So now are we going to build on the knowledge base that you have established, or are we to let it die on the vine? I know that the entire club appreciates you effort and I don't think that it will be difficult to solicit help in the future.

George Parr

PS: If you ever want to taste a beer suitable for
defoliating grass along the fence, I think I
may still have a bottle or two left.
