[MKOB] WYES

 From WYES's standpoint, it's just a way to get products donated, in 
order to host a fund raising event. 

 From the larger beer producer's and distributor's standpoint, it's 
basically publicity.

 From the homebrewers that donate their time and beer, it's for the love 
of the craft and to help out WYES.

My experience going to the event says that it's not a beer tasting.  
It's a beer chug.  Very few people actually want to discuss your beer 
... and at that, there's really no time to discuss anything when you 
have 4 deep rows in front of you to serve.

I wish WYES well, and think it's a great event for the larger beer 
makers as far as publicity goes.  But I won't be there either.

p.s. Over the years I've also been in the WYES chocolate tastings 
(because of what I do for a living.)  It's also basically the same 
thing, instead of being able to discuss what you're doing with a certain 
chocolate and such ... it's a "line up and gorge yourself with desserts" 
fest.

I agree completely...I've been a WYES member since my return to NO in 
1990 but my one "Beerfest" showed me a lot of old beer which some 
exhibitors advised  was stuff they were just geting rid of and none of 
the distributors could tell me anything about the beers.It is good for 
beer drinkers rather than beer students.

I'm not going. I really don't like that event. I'll support WYES with a 
membership, but not with that flimsy shadow of a "Beer Fest". Sorry. If 
anyone who organizes that sham cares about my opinion, I'd be happy to 
talk with them further.
Its format is a fund raiser/beer guzzle, and it discredits the craft 
beer industry.
