As to the Purpose of the WYES beer tasting, it has just become a drinking
fest more than a tasting. But it is pomoted as a fund raiser, and the days of
the sample glass are gone. I do remember the limit of 2oz at the first few I
went to, but not in the last four years do I remember that being enforced.
But, is there any other event that promotes beer brewing, or the sampling of
different beers anywhere close to here?
Why not?
Who would go?
The fifty to hundred people that would know what to expect. Or the ones who
want to drink themselves under the table.
I would love to see an event like the ones put on in other places, they last
for days and have breweries from all over the country.
The best we have is WYES, Emerald Coast, and Zapp's. I know there are more
but where are they, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Colorado, Missouri, New
England, farther that I can go for a weekend.
So we have to support what we have or get off our ass and get a real one. IF
someone wants to do it I'll be one of the first in line to help.
Because there is only one successful brewery that even falls into the
catagory of craft/small brewery in the area. (Pick the one you like or hate here.) By
successful I mean that doesn't have to worry about going under in six months
or less because of cash flow. Not by their product.
It's not because of the Hurricane either, its because there is no real
market for them to start up a new one. How many people in this area actually
support the ones HERE?
You want to bitch because they are unloading OLD beer. Why is it old,
because somone told them it was a good beer and they could sell the hell out
of it. But they had to order a pallet of it, then that person bought one
case. Who else bought it? It sat in the warehouse or on the shelf and didn't
sell. The Distributors have gotten burned many a time and will not take to
many chances anymore. Not only that but even if a good beer is sent out they
have to fight for shelf space, plus getting it to the shelf in decent
condition is impossible. I've seen it brought it to the stores. Dan could
tell you a few about that also.
Larry the event we put on would have never happen if not for the guys from Exxon and Shell who knew
how to organize a crew and what was needed, that is most of the problem. Plus everyone is afraid to associate
with alcohol these days. If you drink your a drug addict.
