It will but some frigs won't go above 45 so ales can be a prob...FWIW,I have
fermented my ales below 45 after they showed activity with good but slower
results.I place an electric temp probe (radio Shack indoor/outdoor
thermometer or if lucky Harbor Freight will AGAIN offer their electronic 
thermometer at a sidewalk sale for 11 bux!!) in a plastic vail in a gallon 
jug of water to get a liquid rather than an air temp reading
