Larry,

Most motors without gear reduction rotate at 1775 Rpm. In order
to get close to 150rpm you will need an 11:1 ratio gear reducer. For
every 11 turns on the motor, the output shaft on reducer turns once.
This would be a lot easier than the sheaves. Motors with reduction can
be expensive.

Here is a couple of links that might help for using pulleys.

Calvin and Jane,

This looks like the way to go for motorizing the Crankenstein if
I
can find some mechanical types to tell me what type of gear size to get.
Calvin and Jason let me know what you think if.

Yes, this reply is late. I was out of the country for a while and have
slowly been catching up on TechTalk. Since I just recently completed a
mill
motorization project, however, I thought I would share my approach. To
eliminate the need for belts and pulleys (or sheaves), I bought a gear
motor. If you're interested in pictures and details, check out
