The purpose of the competitions is to get members brewing different styles of beer and to have a little fun. I have started brewing different beers that I normally wouldn't brew because of the competitions. When the suggestion to start the competition was brought up, which beers would be judged, and how to go about judging the beers was discussed, you didn't attend the meetings at that time, and I don't remember you taking part in any e-mails about these discussions. You brought up a good suggestion about a different way of judging the beer at the club competition. But, you don't have to act like a bitch about it. If you had a problem with the way the competition was handled you should have brought it up after the last competion. To my knowledge you didn't take part in any early discussion about the competitions. So, if you are going to bitch, keep your beer on the southshore. If you want to have a respectable discussion about the competition then bring it up.

Since you are a judge, if you are at the meeting, maybe you could give a short interpretation of what to look for in the beer being judged.

I have a feeling Belgians could be a bitch to judge (not my cup of coffee at all either).

When you started out, you knew zero, and now you are a judge. Maybe some education would be beneficial.

Just a thought.

I think the whole judging of beers in this club is discouraging to some brewers. As a National Judge in the BJCP, the method that you guys use to judge beers is a joke. Some of the people at the meetings have no idea what beer should taste like and to score some one beer a 50 out of 50 means its the best beer, even better than the benchmark. The last meeting and judging where I had two beers entered, which if just drank by you guys without judging you'd think its gods water. Some of the beers at my table which I tasted were okay and I did my best educated experince effort to judge the beers correctly and while tallying up the score 3 people on our tabel scored beers which I scored in the 20s which is a good beer, they scored 50 points which is outstanding beers. Bullshit.
We should go with the scale that Pat Baker used to do at his homebrew meeting is the Best Out of 10. 1 - 10 1 is garbage and 10 is outstanding.
Until this club goeswith this scale I'll never bring beer to a meeting again or even participate. Its not fair to the judges or the brewers.
Oh belgian beers are sour anyway, so I'll just bottle up some White Balsa mic Vinegar in a longneck.
